Sapountzis, C. (1984). Allocating blood to hospitals from a central blood bank. [Journal Article]. European Journal of Operational Research, 16(2), 157-162.
this paper outlines a method for allocating units of blood from a Regional Blood Transfusion Service to the hospitals of its area, taking into account the characteristics of the hospitals. An integer programming model is used, the matrix of which is proved to be unimodular. The method is shown to reduce expiries significantly.
